Music for Adult Beginners

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I too old to start learning music?

No. This is the single most common question asked here, and the answer is always the same. Adults learn music every day — and often more effectively than children, because you understand your own learning process and you’re choosing to be here.

There is no age at which learning music becomes impossible. The process is different from learning as a child, but different doesn’t mean harder.

Do I need any experience or musical background?

None at all. Everything on this site is designed for people starting from scratch. If you’ve never touched an instrument in your life, that’s exactly who this is for.

Do I need a “good ear” or natural talent?

No. The idea that some people are born musical and others aren’t is largely a myth. Musical ability is developed through practice and exposure — not inherited at birth. Most of the adults who have made the most progress in music started out convinced they had no talent whatsoever.

How long will it take to learn?

That depends on what you want to achieve. You can play a recognisable song on guitar within a few weeks of consistent practice. Getting genuinely comfortable with an instrument usually takes several months to a couple of years. It’s not a race — and most adults who stick with it find it becomes one of the most rewarding things they’ve ever done.

How much time do I need to practice?

Much less than you think. Ten to fifteen minutes of focused practice, done consistently, is enough to make real progress — especially at the beginning. You do not need to practise for hours a day.

What equipment do I need to get started?

It depends on the instrument. For guitar, a basic acoustic guitar (£80–£150 new, or less second-hand) is all you need to begin. For piano, a starter keyboard with at least 61 keys and weighted or semi-weighted action works well. Specific recommendations are included in the relevant starter guides.

What’s included in the printable guides?

Each printable guide is a clear, structured PDF you can download immediately after purchase. They typically include step-by-step practice frameworks, diagrams, chord charts or notation depending on the instrument, and a practice schedule. They’re designed to give you clarity on exactly what to do each day — so you’re not guessing.

Are the video courses suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. The courses are built from the ground up for people with no prior experience. No jargon, no assumptions — just clear, progressive instruction.

Can I use these materials alongside other learning (YouTube, apps, etc.)?

Absolutely. Many people use the printable guides alongside free YouTube content — the guides help give structure to what can otherwise feel like a random collection of videos.

After completing your purchase, you’ll receive an email with a download link. Links are typically valid for 72 hours and allow a set number of downloads. If you have any trouble, contact us and we’ll sort it promptly.

Can I get a refund?
